Voyage Day 3

Saturday

Uunartoq hot springs to Tasermiut Fjord (approx. 50 nm)

Day 3 is the middle of the voyage and how fitting that it is today we reach the southernmost point on the voyage, one of Greenland’s most beautiful coordinates.

See the route map below

Breakfast is served on board Nakuak’ to give fuel for yet another day of discovery.

With a lot of sea to cover, we pull anchor early and get underway by sailing around the eastern side of Uunartoq island and then southward, weaving through island after island that were once home to a handful of small settlements and even old copper and gold mines, but which are now uninhabited.

Once we pass the town of Nanortalik, the southernmost in all of Greenland, we make a noticeable directional change eastward. That’s when you know we are entering the famed Tasermiut Fjord.

13.30 Arrival to what is unofficially known as Tasermiut forest, where we set anchor until tomorrow. The chef serves a beautiful board lunch before everyone retires to their cabins to get dressed for an active afternoon out in the forest and beyond, including perhaps even a bathing suit!

The Expedition Manager leads a guided hike through the Tasermiut forest and over the landscape toward Tasersuaq lake that sits just beyond the ridge with a gorgeous view in toward the high mountains. We will walk along the lake’s edge a bit to enjoy the peacefulness of the water. The fitness level of the group will determine how far we go; we make sure everyone feels comfortable with the adventure.

If anyone is up for an oh-so-refreshing swim, now is the ultimate chance. The cold water shocks the system in a most revitalising way. Plus, the Captain will love you because you just saved one shower onboard.

Working up an appetite is the name of this sailing expedition game, so the chef will be busy preparing a nutritious dinner while we are out exploring.

Dinner is served on board Nakuak’ about an hour’s time after return to the ship, so there is time for a quick shower, for those who did not swim! The rest of the evening is at guests’ leisure to bond and play games, take some alone time on the level 2 deck or, dare we say, get some rest.
